Why So Quiet

Things have been a little too quiet here at DJABC. This has been an unplanned quiet, of the type that strikes any club of individuals with family, friends, work, and interests beyond what connects us here. However, I can assure you that we have not stopped our love of literature, Jane Austen, or mayhem.

So what have you ladies been up to, one might ask.

There have been many daily demands, which I shall not bore you with here. Suffice it to say that even our best intentions to enjoy reading and discuss reading will always be trumped by actual living. We are not so fortunate to be ladies of leisure.

However…

Just because we are not ladies of leisure that does not mean that we haven’t found the time for some reading and discussing and planning.

This month we are revisiting Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Jane Austne and Seth Grahame-Smith. This is the book that set us on our dark path of appreciation for monster mashups and plunged us into a whole new genre…or would that be sub-genre?

Additionally, some of us (particularly me) have not finished reading last month’s selection Android Karenina by Leo Tolstoy and Ben H. Winters. Yes, I am ashamed, but in my defense there was life to attend to and have you ever read Tolstoy’s original Anna Karenina? It is a weighty novel to begin with and with Winters’s additions and alterations it is still quite weighty. It is not a thing to be rushed.

What’s to come…

October will see us reading Meowmorphosis by Franz Kafka and Cook Coleridge. We will also be featuring two books set for publication next month that we are excited to share with our fellow dark Janeites here. There will also be a giveaway, so be sure to check in.

We hope you read with us, and stop by to share your questions and perspectives in discussions.
